Students from Jessica Sawchuk's and Tracy Hale's Art classes went to the Rosamund Gifford Zoo today to learn about many different zoo careers from two amazing zoo educators. We learned a lot about how art and creativity is a large part of working there. We got up close and personal with an opossum and a parrot, drew from life as we found perfect moments throughout the zoo, and took amazing photos and even film. It was a beautiful day. Thank you to Laurie Cinelli, Nancy DeRosa, and Tracy Hale for making the day creative and fun. More photos to come!! Stay tuned!
Studio Art stood up and got a little messy. There was a lot of energy, and they learned about value, light, and creating 3 dimensional forms with charcoal. It was fun watching everyone try something new. Drawing should be full of excitement and movement! Charcoal is perfect for that.
In Ceramics, students are using are cool new touch screens to research ideas for their clay tiles! Technology and clay unite!
I welcome you back with a photo of Mary Lambdin who's artwork won first place at the NYS Fair!!! I had no idea until she told me today!!
We're just getting things started in the art room...some exciting events are coming up. An art trip for drawing and photography at the Rosamund Gifford Zoo on September 22nd, our trip to NYC on October 7th, and our first National Art Honor Society meeting which will be sometime in the end of September. I'll keep you posted. If anyone is interested in joining the Art Honor Society, feel free to download and print the necessary paperwork off of this site, or stop in and talk to me. Looking forward to a fun and magical year!!! Ms. Sawchuk:) |
